Budget cuts are impacting admissions effecting nurses, teachers, and community college transfer students according to an article in the Sacramento Bee dated July 11, 2009. "California State University officials announced this week that the 23-campus system will not accept applications for the 2010 spring semester, and campuses on the quarter system stopped taking applications for winter term July 6." The article goes on to mention a 2 year goal of reducing student enrollment by 40,000. "Admission departments will prioritize, offering enrollment to first-time freshmen, upper division transger, graduate and post-baccalaureate applicants."
Up for consideration is a 30% fee hike for the student.
Conclusion:
- Competition for admission to college is dramatically increasing along with the cost to attend. This is not a good combination. The best wisdom is to start the college planning process early - as early as 9th grade, team up with a college funding advisor, and increase the likelyhood of success.
